Hoedown features The Band Steele

The 17th annual Phil Campbell Hoedown is scheduled for June 15-16 and boasts a full lineup of entertainment.

Friday night at 7 p.m., Purpose will take the stage, immediately followed by New Ground at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Station Street will take the stage from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Fairlane will follow from 3-4 p.m. From 4:30-5:30 p.m. the JJ Scott Band will perform. At 6 p.m. Jerry Martin and The Free State Band will perform, and the Twist and Buck Dancing Contest will take place. At 8 p.m. headliner The Band Steele will take the stage for a two-hour set.

The Band Steele is made up of Bo Steele, the lead vocalist, and Ben Rubino, who plays guitar and provides background vocals. The duo is from Winston County and is rising in the ranks of country music stardom. Their newest album is “Moon in a Mason Jar” featuring singles “195” and “The Lineman.”

Race day registration for the Judy James Memorial 5K Run starts Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Registration entries sent by mail should be postmarked by June 13. Pre-registered adults and children’s entry fee is $15. Day-of-race entry fee is $25 for adults and $20 for children 12 and younger. Proceeds benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Registration for the Car and Bike Show lasts from 8-11 a.m. Judging lasts from 11 a.m. to noon. Trophies will be awarded at 1 p.m.

The entrance fee for the show is $20, and the grand prize is a snap-on impact wrench.

Numerous drawings for door prizes will be made throughout the Car and Bike Show. All proceeds go directly to the Park and Recreation Department for improvements and additions to the Memorial Park, Splash Pad Park and baseball and softball facilities.

At 11 a.m. Saturday morning, Mayor Steve Bell will officiate the opening ceremonies. Kayla Hamilton will perform the “Star Spangled Banner.” Chad Fell will lead the Bubble Gum Contest.

T-shirts can be purchased at Phil Campbell City Hall. The shirts are available in heather navy, heather red and camouflage Youth small through large are $10, and adult small through extra-large are $10. Adult 2XL and 3XL are $12. Adult Camo small through extra-large are $15. Adult Camo 2XL are $17.

One-size caps are $12.
