Riley Hospital officials donated the use of a building at 1207 19th Ave. to Care Lodge Wednesday, more than doubling the shelter's office space.
Care Lodge Executive Director Leslie Payne said the new location means an expansion of programs and services.
Care Lodge had been leasing about 1,200 square feet of office space, used by the executive director, outreach coordinator and an administrative assistant. The new location provides 2,800 square feet of space. Payne said funds that had been used for rent are now being used for victim services.
Care Lodge provided shelter for 138 women and 192 children last year. A total of 5,047 domestic violence crisis and referral/information calls were documented and educational services were provided to 18 abusers through the Family Violence Intervention Program.
Care Lodge is a United Way agency providing services in Lauderdale, Clarke, Newton, Noxubee, Neshoba, Scott, Winston, Kemper and Leake counties.
