ENTERPRISE Duke Energy plans to invest $230 million over the next year with construction of a peak power plant in the Enterprise Industrial Park.
Work is expected to begin by the end of the month and the natural gas-fired plant should be online by June 2002. When completed, the plant will sell electrical power wholesale to other power companies during peak usage times.
When completed, the plant will employ about seven people. However, it will mean about $1 million in tax dollars for the next 10 years to be shared by Clarke County and the Enterprise School District.
The Enterprise Industrial Park attracted Duke Energy's attention because it is near a major gas supply line. There is also a water well located in the industrial park.
Jon Busby, Duke Energy's project director, said between 200 and 300 people will be involved in the construction of the 640 megawatt plant.
Construction will be handled by one of the company's affiliates, Duke/Fluor Daniel.
