RED BAY- City Clerk Linda Holcomb was recently awarded the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Inc. for achieving its high education, experience and service requirements.
Holcomb is among 132 other municipal clerks in Alabama that hold this certification.
"I began working on this certification in December 2004 when I became clerk here at Red Bay," Holcomb said.
Holcomb replaced retired city clerk Shirley Cody.
She did most of her training at the University of Alabama where she attended classes twice per year.
"They also gave me credit for other work experience relevant to the certification," she said.
In addition to being awarded as a certified clerk, Holcomb is a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers Association and she attended the University of North Alabama where she met all the requirements to be named Certified Bookkeeper.
"I greatly enjoy my work and I am honored to serve the mayor, city council and the citizens of Red Bay as their city clerk," Holcomb said.
She will soon begin training to achieve the Master Municipal Clerk designation, which will be the next level of certification.
