West Lauderdale's Brad McKee has had his share of big days, but Friday may have been the biggest yet.
The senior outfielder for the Knights, who has been a part of two state championship teams and received numerous accolades for his performance over the years, signed a national letter of intent to play for the University of Southern Mississippi next year.
McKee was contacted by several colleges including Ole Miss, Mississippi State, West Alabama and Jackson State. But the opportunity to play for former Meridian Community College coaches Corky Palmer and Scott Berry drew McKee to USM.
Palmer, the Golden Eagles head coach, says McKee will be a perfect fit at Southern.
Palmer also knows what he is getting in McKee since he had numerous West players on his teams at MCC, including one of his assistant coaches and recruiting coordinator at Southern, Lane Burroughs.
West Lauderdale head coach Jerry Boatner says while McKee has had a great career for the Knights, he thinks he will go on to even bigger and better things at Southern.
McKee hit .410 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs for the Knights last year.
