Russellville golfers look to gain experience on the course

The Russellville High School varsity boys’ golf team has started the 2024 season, and the players are aiming for top scores on the course.

Head coach Patrick Odom has a roster of seven players this year, and the group has already played a handful of tournaments together this season.

“We have a new group to the game of golf,” Odom said. “Our two most experienced players are our two sophomores, Paden Boutwell and Parker Odom. From there, we have a group of seniors who are getting better every day.” The seniors include Harrison Burch, Nick Pounders, Shiloh Willis, Logan Wells and Carson McCalpin.

“Our goals are to advance to sub-state and hopefully state,” Coach Odom said. RHS shares Class 5A Section 4 with Arab, Ardmore, Brewer, East Limestone, Fairview, Guntersville, Lawrence County, Randolph, Scottsboro and West Point.”

The Golden Tigers have matches scheduled April 2 against Deshler at Cypress Lakes, April 9 against Hamilton at Pikeville, April 11 against Lawrence County at Deer Run, the Northwest Alabama Invitational April 15 at Deer Run, April 16 versus Priceville and April 23 against Lawrence County at Twin Pines.

The Class 5A Section 4 tournament is scheduled for April 29 at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course. The boys’ sub-state is scheduled for May 7 at Twin Bridges Golf Club, and the state tournament will be held May 13-14 at Robert Trent Jones cord at the Shoals.
