Belgreen baseball racks up 24 runs in season-opening win

A combination of live bats and patience at the plate gave the Belgreen Bulldogs a big opening season win over the Cherokee Indians 24-14.

Belgreen got 10 hits and walked 20 times in the game.

The Bulldogs’ veteran experience was on display.

Will King went 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBI and scored four runs. Landon Cox was 2-for-2, with two RBI and scored twice.

Eighth grade leadoff hitter Rush Berryman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored four times.

Fellow eighth grader Ty Hamilton got his first varsity win on the mound coming into the game in the third inning to strike out two before being relieved by Cox. Cox got the save, allowing no runs.

Colton Ashton went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs.

Phil Campbell 9, Tharptown 8

Phil Campbell scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a one run lead over Tharptown, holding off the Wildcats in the seventh to get a 9-8 win.

The Bobcats out-hit Tharptown 10-8, but committed eight errors in the field.

Cody Quinn went 3-for-3 with three RBI and scored a run. Eli Taylor had two hits and scored three runs. Cale Faust had two hits, three RBI and scored a run.

Central 4, Phil Campbell 3

Central broke a 3-3 tie in extra innings to beat Phil Campbell 4-3 in the Bobcats’ rain-soaked season opener.

Phil Campbell got out-hit 5-4 and committed three errors in the field.

Eli Taylor got on base twice and scored both times. Chandler Benford had two hits and scored a run.
