Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wilson Jones of Birmingham, Ala., announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelly Frances, to Benjamin Matthew Carr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Holmes Carr of Atlanta.
The wedding will be Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham.
Miss Jones is the granddaughter of Mrs. Willis Earl Perkins of Meridian and the late Mr. Perkins, and Mrs. Wilson Jones of Laurel and the late Mr. Jones.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Lamar High School and received a degree in piano performance from Samford University.
While attending Samford, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, the recipient of the Miller-Shepherd Piano Scholarship and was named to the Dean's List. Miss Jones is a provisional member of the Birmingham Junior League and was Miss Alabama 2001.
Mr. Carr is the grandson of Frank Marshall Child Jr. of Manchester, Ga., and the late Mrs. Child, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Curry Carr of Milledgeville, Ga.
The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Samford University with a degree in biology. He is currently attending medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He will receive his medical degree in May 2004.
While attending Samford, he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He attended Samford on an academic scholarship.
