Falling into fall, savoring a sandwich

I was one of many attending the yearly Red Bay Founder’s Fest this weekend.

The weather was pleasant, and there were a lot of vendors set up, offering a variety of goods, promoting organizations and providing food and treat options. Festivalgoers had the opportunity to ride a train, bounce on an inflatable or ride a carnival ride. A lineup of musical entertainment complemented the day’s activities, as did the chance to see who won the fried pie, photography, quilting and car show competitions.

When it came time for lunch, I went inside a downtown cafe and wound up with something I had never heard of: a pineapple cream cheese sandwich – white bread with cream cheese and diced pineapple.

Initially a little dubious, to my delight, I found it – along with chips and iced tea – to make a very pleasant lunch. I now find myself wondering how many people have been enjoying this delight I’ve been missing out on all these years.

Oddly satisfying, it was fun to try something new, and now I have a new favorite.
