Krewe de Guard hosts SantaCon
Local service group Krewe de Guard is hosting a SantaCon fundraiser Dec. 18 to benefit FAME Girls’ Ranch.
The gathering will take place at 11 a.m. outside of the Russellville Canteen, 201 N. Washington Ave., in downtown Russellville. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as a Santa, star, Christmas tree, elf or something else in the spirit of Christmas.
“SantaCon is something I got to be a part of when I was living in San Francisco,” explained Krewe de Guard founder Anna Carol Porter. “This will be a day of excitement, a good ole jolly giving time. I hope everyone will come out and support the event and have fun dressing up and mingling and getting into the spirit of the Christmas season.”
At 11:30 a.m., the group will begin making their way to the Franklin County Courthouse – by walking, running, skateboarding and bicycling. Porter said participants should not bring golf carts, cars or animals for transport, and they should not plan to throw candy or other items, as the event is not a parade.
At noon at the Courthouse, Santa, Mrs. Claus, elves and two special guests will be on hand for photos. Photos with Santa will cost $5, and hot cocoa will cost $2. Porter said people should bring their own cameras to take their pictures.
Registration for SantaCon is $10, and a liability waiver needs to be filled out.
Fame Girls’ Ranch will be this year’s beneficiary of the festive frivolity.
“The work that FAME Girls’ Ranch has been doing for years in our community speaks for itself,” said Krewe member Bonnie Bendall. “It is our turn as a community to shine a light on their work and give back to them.
“There will be fun for all ages.”
