FCS teams stay busy in baseball

Outside of Franklin County Tournament action, several Franklin County teams notched big wins this week.

The Belgreen Bulldogs rallied from behind twice this past week to beat the Phillips Bears 9-8 in an area matchup.

Belgreen, trailing 4-2, rallied to tie the game in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs fell behind 7-4 in the sixth inning but responded by scoring five in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead and hold off the Bears.

Canaan Stough led the Bulldogs with a triple and three RBIs and scored twice. Cole King, Will King, Carson Cox, Alex Jarnigan, Landon Cox, Jackson Galliano and Brodie Vandiver all crossed the plate once in the game.

Stough started the game for Belgreen, pitching five innings. He allowed three hits but just one earned run of the six that crossed the plate, and he struck out eight.

Carson Cox got the win, pitching the final two innings.

Phil Campbell 14, Danville 6

Phil Campbell racked up 14 hits in a 14-6 area win over Danville this past week.

Danville led 1-0 after the first inning, but Phil Campbell took the lead in the top of the second inning when Bryant Hyde and Trey Leindecker scored.

Danville reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the second inning 3-2, but once again the Bobcats responded in the bottom half of the inning. A walk and sacrifice fly scored Ridge Raper and Hyde to give Phil Campbell a 4-3 lead.

Phil Campbell sealed the win with a blistering seven-run fourth inning to put the game away.

Austen Baker had three hits and two RBIs, and he scored twice for the Bobcats.

Phil Campbell 17, Danville 0

Levi Crittenden and Brett Saint combined for a no-hit shutout of the Danville Eagles this past week.

Bryant Anthony led the Bobcats with two hits, including a two-run homer in the third inning. Raper had two hits and three RBIs, and he scored twice. Mason Swinney tripled, had an RBI, and scored twice. Luke Barnwell scored three runs from the top of the lineup.
