Survivor dinner features Carrie Rickman

The annual Franklin County Relay for Life Cancer Survivor Dinner will be held April 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the A.W. Todd Center in Russellville.

This year the dinner will feature a local Christian trio Three Strong, who will entertain the survivors and their guests. Three Strong is composed of Kellie Hargett, Shayla Sutherland and Leann Trapp.

“They’re a great group and have a great following,” said American Cancer Society community development manager Anna Duncan.

Carrie Rickman will be the speaker this year. Duncan said Rickman is a breast cancer survivor who also has other family members who have from cancer. She graduated from Phil Campbell High School and taught there for a period of time.

“Everyone will get such a blessing from her story,” said Duncan.

The dinner is being sponsored by Community Spirit Bank, and desserts are being provided by Blue Door Bakery. Red Bay’s 4th Street Grill is providing the food.

Duncan said every year a different bank in the community sponsors the dinner.

Door prizes, which have been donated by local businesses, will be given out after Rickman speaks, and survivor T-shirts will also be given out at that time. Every cancer survivor receives a T-shirt. “It’s a way to honor our survivors,” said Duncan.

The survivor dinner is free and open to all cancer survivors, plus one guest. Those interested should RSVP by emailing Janice Dover at janice@franklinbaptist1898.org.
