Russellville resident enters Sports Hall of Fame

Dana Long Terry, a resident of Russellville, was inducted into the Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame March 16.

Terry lettered in five sports for Lexington High School: volleyball, basketball, tennis, track and softball. She competed in state tournaments in three of the five sports. As a senior in 1989, Terry was the Lauderdale County Female Athlete of the Year. As a basketball player at Lexington she earned All-County, All-Area, All Region and All-State honors. She was placed on the Times Daily All-Area teams multiple times.

In her senior season at Lexington, she averaged 28 points per game and 15.5 rebounds per game. She totaled over 2,100 points in her high school basketball career.

In volleyball she was an All- County, All-Area and All-State Tournament selection as a junior and senior. Her teams were the 3A State Tournament Runners-Up for five consecutive years. She played in the Junior Olympics and was named team MVP and Best Offensive Player.

She played volleyball at the University of North Alabama for two years and recorded more than 400 kills and 400 blocks in those two seasons.

She left UNA for Livingston University, but her career was cut short because of an injury in basketball.

Other notable achievements include track state championship competitions in the 400-meter dash and relays and one tennis state championship tournament berth.

She is married to Lt. Col. Keith Terry, and their daughter Lauren Grace Terry attends Mississippi State University. Her parents are Dan and Glenda Long.
