To close out the year, the Red Bay City Council held its last meeting Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.

The meeting started out with Red Bay Police Department officer Rodney Belue being promoted to lieutenant, Matt Brazil being hired as a full-time police officer and Kyle Gober being hired as a full-time temporary employee of the street department.

Three people – Scotty Kennedy, Pat Nelson and Jeri Mayo – were appointed to the city’s newly-established Beautification Committee. They will each serve five-year terms. Two more members will be appointed at a later date.

The council also took the opportunity to outline new Weatherford Public Library hours. At its first meeting of December, the council had voted unanimously to increase the library’s hours of operation from 25 to 35. New hours were determined as Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A called council meeting will be held Jan. 3 at 3:30 p.m., with a work session beginning at 3 p.m., in accommodation of the holidays. The next regular scheduled meeting will be Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., preceded by a 30-minute work session.
