Zombie-lovers will unite Oct. 29 for Russellville Public Library’s 4^th Annual Zombie Walk in downtown Russellville, but walkers can prepare now by checking out a great zombie story.

RPL boasts a number of creepy zombie tales suitable for all ages, library director Ashley Cummins said.

Here are just a few of the options:

• “The Very Hungry Zombie,” a parody by Michael Teitelbaum
• “My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish,” by Mo O’Hara
• “The Forest of Hands and Teeth,” by Carrie Ryan – “an interesting take on the zombie apocalypse,” Cummins said. “I couldn’t stop reading this trilogy!”
• “The Zombie Survival Guide,” by Max Brooks
• “Alice in Zombieland,” by Gena Showalter – “zombies like you have never heard them before,” Cummins described. Bonus – the book is set in Birmingham, bringing this story close to home.
• The Rot & Ruin Collection, by Jonathan Mayberry – “all the action you could want in fun zombie-slaying fashion,” Cummins said.

Admission to the Zombie Walk is free. Doors open at 10 a.m. Oct. 29, and pre-walk festivities include a professional makeup team to zombify attendees (arrive by 3:30 p.m. at the latest for make-up), a zombie bake sale, zombie trivia, a brain-eating contest, zombie karaoke, costume contest and more. The walk will commence at 5:30 p.m., beginning at the library and ending at the courthouse, tentatively.

Cummins said this event is appropriate for all ages. As has always been the case, the main thrust of the Zombie Walk is to get people in the door of the library, to realize everything a local library has to offer, and Cummins said RPL has gained many new patrons from Zombie Walks’ of past years.

Door prizes donated by local businesses are sure to attract zombies of all ages. Event T-shirts are available for presale, $10 each, through Oct. 15, with the proceeds going directly to the Friends of the Russellville Public Library.
