RCS monthly expenses

The Russellville City School Board held its monthly meeting Oct. 22. The meeting began with Superintendent Heath Grimes and President Jerry Groce giving recognition to two people: Lorraine Perez, science teacher at Russellville High School, who was recognized for receiving the 2015 Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for Alabama which awarded by the National Association of Biology Teachers, and Brett Gist for reaching level three of School Board Meeting Academy.

Invoices for the month totaled $913,200, which included:

– Installation of handrails at RMS gym and maintenance contract on bleachers

– Purchase of 2010 Ford Van for the Technology Department

– Chromebooks and licenses for use in schools

– New engine for the tractor

– Lights for RMS

– Monthly bond payment to City of Russellville

– Monthly payment to City of Russellville for School Resource Officers

– Heating and air conditioner repairs

– iPad air and iPad minis for RES

– Insurance on buses

– AP College Ready manuals

– Textbooks

– Classroom tables for RHS and West Elementary

– Purchase of 2012 Ford Transit Van (CNP)

– SchoolCast annual maintenance

The following personnel items were approved

– Sandra Kennedy, custodian, RMS; leave of absence from Oct. 6-20

Betty McKinney, custodian, RHS; retirement, effective Nov. 1

Shirley McSpadden, bus driver; resignation, effective Sept. 14

Mary Elizabeth Peters, Kayla Goad, Amy Putman, Kasey Williams and Patricia Connell, substitutes

The next regular meeting will be Nov. 19 at 3:30 p.m., and the work session will be Nov. 16 at 3:30 p.m.
