Northeast Lauderdale busted out some new red game pants and in turn busted out the whuppin' stick on Southeast Lauderdale on Friday night at Northeast Park.
The Lady Trojans, the defending South State 4A champions, ripped 15 hits in beating Southeast 14-1 in five innings. The win evens Northeast's record at 1-1 on the season. The game was Southeast's season opener.
Northeast head coach Chris Harper was glad to see the hits go with the runs following Tuesday night's 7-1 loss at West Lauderdale.
Nine of the 10 Lady Trojans had at least one hit. Leadoff batter Lauren Webb started the romp with a triple and finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Amber Gray was 2-for-3 with two runs and two knocked in. Jana Olczak was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI while Jennifer Bristow also had two hits and two runs driven in.
Northeast scored three in the first, five in the second, five in third and one in the fourth to build a 14-0 lead. The five-run second came off a pair of doubles from Raleigh Odom and Olczak along with three errors by Southeast.
Lady Tiger head coach Ryan Miller lamented about his team's play.
Southeast got its run in the fifth when Madison Davis singled and later scored on a throwing error by Northeast. Davis led Southeast with two hits and a run scored. Shalonda Mitchell, Courtney Graham, Lindsey Graham and LeAnn Workman had the other Lady Tiger hits.
Northeast returns to action at home against Laurel before getting a return engagement with West Lauderdale on Aug. 23. They will also be at home for the Meridian High Tournament at Northeast Park beginning on Aug. 24.
