FUMC invites all to bicentennial celebration

Russellville First United Methodist Church, 311 N. Jackson Ave. in Russellville, will have a pandemic-delayed bicentennial celebration Nov. 7 at 10:30 a.m.

“We are excited about finally getting to celebrate 200 years of ministry in Russellville,” said the church’s pastor, the Rev. Todd Owen. “From our early days as a small meeting house to the move to the downtown area by the old courthouse square, to the move to our current location, our legacy has been and will continue to be one of being a place for vibrant worship and Christian education for all ages, to nurture one another in Christian love as we share God’s love in our community and beyond through our outreach and mission activities.”

Phillip Hamilton, Bicentennial Committee chairman, said the church hopes the community will come out to celebrate and worship with them.

“Our hope is that a review of the traditions and heritage of the church congregation will awaken us to a closer walk with God and inspire us to love and serve our community in a Christlike way,” he said. “A church history book has been prepared and will be available on the day of the celebration, as well as through our church office.”

“We will honor and celebrate 200 years of faithfully loving and serving in Franklin County,” added Owen. “We will also celebrate the present and embrace a hopeful future.”
