Local man found in Cedar Creek

A local man’s body was recovered from Cedar Creek Monday afternoon after a search by divers that spanned two days.

The body of Michael Trent Markem was pulled from the water a day after witnesses said his car was seen going over a cliff near “The Rock,” a popular swimming area on Cedar Creek in Franklin County.

Officials said witnesses called the Franklin County Sheriff’s Dept. on Sunday, May 3 at approximately 6:30 p.m. to report a car driving over the cliff at the popular recreation spot.

Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said divers were sent to the scene after the witnesses said they were unsure if there was anyone in the car. Divers checked the waters before suspending the search Sunday evening, officials said.

On Monday, May 4, a missing person report was filed with Russellville Police Dept. that morning for Michael Trent Markem, according to officials.

Oliver said the vehicle descriptions fit those with the car that was scene entering the water on Sunday near “The Rock,” and divers were sent back to the scene.

About 4:30 p.m. divers located and retrieved the body near where the car was seen entering the water, according to officials.

The case is still under investigation according to Oliver.
