Edith L. Smith, 87, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Castleton Health Care in Indianapolis, Ind. following an extended illness.

The funeral services were Oct. 8, 2013, at Akins Funeral Home in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in Winston Memorial Gardens, Haleyville.

Edith was born in Russellville, on June 1, 1926, the daughter of Newton and Bertha (Clemmons) Duboise, and was a graduate of Russellville High School. She attended college in Florence.

Mrs. Smith worked for over 13 years in the drapery department at Sears in Muncie. She attended Colonial Hills Baptist Church, and was a member of Old Town Hill Baptist Church since 1997.

Survivors include a son, Byron Smith, and wife, Kathy, Indianapolis Ind.; a brother, Reverend Elmer E. Smith, Russellville; a sister, Ethel Williams, and husband, Doyle, Haleyville; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Norman U. Smith; and a sister Hattie Maddox.
