Two arrested for having meth making materials

A Franklin County man and a Winston County man were taken into custody after authorities found ingredients for meth inside their vehicle.

Franklin County Sheriff’s office investigators said Robert Dewayne Harp, 41, 7th Avenue, Haleyville, and Stevie Leon Motes Jr., 35, of 285 Kennerly Road, Phil Campbell, are both charged with second-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance.

Authorities said Harp was also charged with giving false information to law enforcement and tampering with evidence.

Authorities said the incident occurred just before 5 p.m. on August 8 when deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road with passengers inside.

Officials said the passengers saw law enforcement and began to leave, while disposing items out the window.

Investigators said deputies made the arrest after making a traffic stop on Franklin 26 near Spruce Pine.

Investigators said they found multiple precursors and ingredients inside the vehicle.

Authorities said they also found a tackle box which was thrown from the car after deputies made the traffic stop.

Authorities said both Harp and Motes eventually admitted to gathering items to make methamphetamine.

Harp and Motes are currently being held on bond at the Franklin County jail.
