CHOCTAW For some, Saturday's MACJC all-star basketball games at Choctaw Central High School were a chance to show their future coaches what they've got coming in.
For others, it was one last chance to try to convince somebody to pick them up for next year.
South women's co-MVPs Kimyatta Viverette (9.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg) from East Central and JoAnna Williams (25.8 ppg, 6 rpg) of Gulf Coast are both planning to sign with the University of South Alabama this week.
The rest of the area participants in Saturday's games are either still deciding among their choices or just looking for a place to play.
They had plenty of chances to convince other schools to take them as representatives from Albany State University, Alcorn State University, Belhaven College, Bethel (Tenn.) College, Campbell University, Cumberland (Ky.) College, Delta State University, Harding University, Henderson State, Kennesaw State University, Jackson State University, Martin Methodist, Millsaps College, Mississippi College, Mississippi Valley State University, North Carolina A&T State University, Spring Hill College, Tuskegee Institute, Union (Tenn.) University, the University of South Alabama, the University of West Alabama, and the University of West Georgia were among those in attendance.
Other locals who participated in the games were Lenore Gray (12.9 ppg, 8 rpg), Rita Birden (11 ppg, 4 rpg), and Jamaal Martin (13.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg) of East Central; Joseph Collins (13 ppg, 8 rpg) of East Mississippi, Sharon Pendarvis (9 ppg, 4 rpg), Marvin McDonald (13 ppg, 4 rpg), and John Gray (13 ppg, 5 apg) of Jones; and Stephanie Mosley (11.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg) and Willie Powers (9.6 ppg, 8.7 rpg) of Meridian.
