Junior Miss contestants Blaire Barham and Ivy Rawson found out they had more in common on Thursday than just competing for the title of Junior Miss.
The two also share a birthday.
Rawson and Barham, both 17-year-old high school juniors, joined 27 other contestants who were all starting to feel the pressure of the two-night competition, which is set to begin tonight at the Temple Theatre in Meridian.
Barham said she was most worried about the onstage question contestants receive about 15 minutes beforehand.
Ten girls are competing for the title of Meridian's Junior Miss, while 19 are vying for Lauderdale County's title.
Contestants will will judged and scored in the following categories: interview, 25 percent; talent, 25 percent; scholastic, 20 percent; fitness, 15 percent; and poise, 15 percent. Awards will be given for scholastic achievement, panel evaluation, physical fitness, poise, talent and the "Be Your Best Self" essay.
The winners of the competition will be announced Saturday night and will next compete in the Mississippi Junior Miss Program scheduled in Meridian July 29-31, where they could share in $20,000 of college scholarships.
