MCC students win live skills competition at state conference

ELLISVILLE Meridian Community College students received nine first place awards in Skills USA VICA state competition at Jones Junior College during the state conference this week in Ellisville.
The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, or VICA, Skills USA competition showcases the best career and technical students in the nation.
Contests begin locally and continue through state and national levels. Winners on the state level progress to the National VICA Skills Championship in Kansas City, Mo., in June.
The philosophy of the Skills USA Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers' needs.
The MCC winners were:
Team Works: Tyler Harper, first place; Jason Mowdy, first place; Frankie Shoemaker, first place; and Linda Warren, first place.
Cabinet Making: Mac Yates, first place.
Sheet Metal: Tommy Smith, first place.
Preschool Teaching Assistant: Tatiana Logan, first place.
Job Skill Demonstration: Davis Douglas, first place.
Customer Service: Cynthia Griffin, first place.
Electronics Technology: Richard Anderson, second place.
CNC Milling: Brandon Bishop, second place.
Architectural Drafting: Jeremy Wright, second place.
CNC Turning: Alex Reeves, second place.
CPR/First Aid: Lesley Carr, third place.
Related Technical: Frank Marascalco, third place.
Technical Drafting: Michael Penney, third place.
Carpentry: Tarance McCoy, third place.
