Newton County's Junior Miss program will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at Huff Auditorium on the campus of East Central Community College in Decatur.
Eight young women will compete for the title of Newton County's Junior Miss and a share of college scholarships.
This year's theme is "Junior Miss on Broadway." Tickets will be on sale at the door.
Participants include Kelsi Ables, Lydia Adkins, Ashley Brooks, Lauren Castillo, Maggie McDill, Rachel McElhenney, Kristen Thompson and Julia Tucker.
The categories in which each contestant is evaluated include scholastics, 20 percent; interview, 25 percent; talent, 25 percent; fitness, 15 percent; and poise, 15 percent.
The program's goal is to honor young women who excel in all these areas and to encourage them to continue on the path of excellence by completing their college education and assuming roles of leadership in their communities and professions.
The national sponsors of America's Junior Miss include Coca-Cola, Sea World, Busch Gardens and Tyson Foods. National category sponsors include The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, Bally Total Fitness, Terminix, Mobile Gas and Regions Bank.
The winner of Newton County's Junior Miss program will participate in the 2005 Mississippi Junior Miss program in Meridian on July 29-31. For more information on America's Junior Miss, visit www.ajm.org.
