A second O'Reilly Auto Parts store is open for business in Meridian.
The store, at 4305 8th St., had its grand opening on Thursday. The store manager is Shannon Blue and he has 10 employees.
Blue worked at the company's other Meridian store, located at 14th Street and 10th Avenue and which he said employs about 10 to 12 people.
O'Reilly Auto Parts was founded in 1957 and is headquartered in Springfield, Mo. The company has more than 900 stores in 16 states.
Blue said plans call for the opening of about 120 stores this fiscal year.
A free forum with the theme "Tax Responsibilities for Small Businesses" is scheduled for Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in Kahlmus Auditorium at Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus.
The forum is being planned by Mississippi State University in Starkville, MSU-Meridian, the East Mississippi Business Development Corp. and Meridian Community College Webb Center.
Speakers will inform and answer question about taxes on the local, state and national level. Anyone in business or thinking of starting a business can attend.
Officials with Union Planters Bank have announced the promotion of John J. Griffith to community bank president at the bank's Hattiesburg operations.
Griffith has more than 17 years of extensive experience in banking and lending. Prior to his promotion, he served as vice president of Commercial Lending for the Hattiesburg division of Union Planters.
Griffith is an alumnus of Mississippi State University and University of Oklahoma National Commercial Lending School. He is a senior at Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking.
In his new position, Griffith will coordinate banking activities in the Hattiesburg market with responsibility for commercial loan and deposit production for the company.
He is a member of the Rotary Club of Hattiesburg and serves on the finance committee of Hattiesburg area YMCA. He is also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Union Planters Bank has six branches in its Hattiesburg division and is actively involved in various community programs.
