Bassoonist, pianist set to perform at St. Paul's

Bassoonist John Bivins and pianist Rosangela Yazbec Sebba will be the guest performers at the next St. Paul's Chamber Series, set for Thursday at the church.
Sebba is a native of Brazil, where she appears frequently as a recitalist and accompanist. She has won many first prizes in national competitions, including the "Most Talented and Musical" prize in the National Piano Competition in Sao Paulo City, Brazil.
In the United States, Sebba has accompanied master classes of Winton Marsalis (trumpeter), Emerson String Quartet, Joseph Robinson (oboe), Csaba Erdlyi (viola) and Leontyne Price.
Currently on the faculty of Mississippi State University, Sebba has taught at the State Conservatory in Brazil, the University of Southern Mississippi and Pearl River Community College. She also teaches summer courses in Brazil.
John Bivins, bassoonist, pursues a varied career. In addition to his 20-year faculty appointment at USM, he has taught at Auburn University, Columbus College and the Sewanee Summer Music Center at the University of the South.
He has performed as principal bassoonist with the Springfield Symphony and Illinois Chamber orchestras, the Mobile Opera and the Mississippi, Pensacola, Meridian, Gulf Coast and Columbus, Ga., symphony orchestras. He has served as contrabassoonist with most of the above and with the Alabama Symphony, the New Orleans Philharmonic and Kingsport Symphony. He has also performed with the St. Petersburg Russia Symphony.
Bivins' radio credits include NPR's "Performance Today," as well as many solo, chamber and orchestral performances on PRM. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
