Ward sees her dream come true with Hope Village

By Staff
Jan. 1, 2002
A dream for Meridian native and award-winning actress Sela Ward became reality when Hope Village for Children officially opened its doors late last month.
Ward thought about creating Hope Village when she visited an emergency shelter in Meridian, saw two brothers who were about to be separated and wanted to help.
So she embarked on a quest to create a home for abused and neglected children. Two years and more than $1.6 million later, Hope Village stands ready to accept its first children.
The four cottages of Hope Village occupy the site of the former Masonic Home on 23rd Avenue. Two cottages are ready for children; renovation continues on the others.
