Meridian police are investigating a Wednesday night robbery at the Dixie Oil Co. Station No. 3 at 1101 B St.
Lt. Wade Johnson of the Meridian Police Department said a black man entered the gas station and convenience store at about 8:15 p.m. and demanded money from the female clerk.
The clerk gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash. Johnson said the man fled the scene in a late 1970s or early 1980s four-door, tan car in the parking lot possibly a Toyota Corolla.
Johnson said no one was inside the store other than the clerk, but there were two witnesses outside.
The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion, 5-feet-7-inches to 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighing 135-140 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue shirt, denim shorts and a white baseball cap.
Johnson gave some tips how people can avoid injury in a robbery or attempted robbery.
If inside a business and not in the open, Johnson said it may not be possible for people to distance themselves from the robber, but the other rules apply.
Above all, he said, people should be observant, try to remember as many details about the suspect or vehicle as possible and give police a good description.
Anyone with information about the Dixie Oil Co. robbery or suspect should call the Meridian Police Department at 485-1859 or CrimeStoppers 485-1860.
