QUITMAN The five municipalities in Clarke County will be paying a extra $1 per ton for having garbage hauled to the landfill.
The Clarke County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to adjust the rate after receiving notification that the Pine Ridge Landfill would be upping its rate it charges the county 71 cents to $21.47 per ton.
The municipalities (Quitman, Stonewall, Pachuta, Enterprise and Shubuta) collect garbage and Clarke County hauls it to the landfill. The county will now charge $26 per ton.
At this point, there will be no extra charge to county residents who have their garbage picked up on the road; however, county administrator Diane Wright said that will be discussed at budget time later this summer.
In other matters, supervisors:
Accepted bids for supplies and took them under advisement;
Agreed to rename a street in Pachuta. New name will be Fagan Lane;
Approved a motion to send Brenda Dearman to a 911 seminar in Jackson on June 4-8;
Agreed to replace an air conditioning unit in the Shubuta Library;
Approved an easement on County Road 637 for the East Mississippi Electric Power Association, and,
Authorized the state highway department to put up a sign advertising Archusa Waterpark on County Road 110.
