COLUMBUS Severe weather in the Columbus area in mid-afternoon Friday led to the postponement of the finals of the Division 2-4A Tournament until today.
Top-seeded Noxubee County, 27-4, will face second-seeded Neshoba Central, 24-9, tonight at 6 p.m. in the girls' championship contest at New Hope High School.
In the boys' main event, fourth-seeded Louisville, 19-11, will face third-seeded Noxubee County, 17-14, at 7:30.
Electricity was knocked out in Columbus around 2:45 p.m. and was still off at 3:40 with local law officials saying it would be at least two more hours before power could be restored to the main line.
Many roofs were damaged in both Columbus and Starkville with an 18-wheeler blown on its side on Highway 82 near Leigh Mall in Columbus. Countless trees, highway signs, and billboards were toppled in the storm.
