Local restaurant hosting Kids Fun Night next week

Several groups will be joining together on Thursday to participate in a Kids Fun Night for children across the area.

The event is hosted by Captain D’s in Russellville and will take place in the restaurant parking lot on U.S. 43 on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Captain D’s Russellville manager Kim Davis said members of the Russellville Fire Department, Russellville Police Department, Transcare Ambulance in Russellville and Baccus Ambulance Service in Muscle Shoals will be on hand to interact with the children.

“On Thursdays, we already have a deal where two kids can eat for free as long as there is an adult who purchases a regular menu dinner,” Davis said.

“We thought we’d couple this event with our Thursday deal so parents can bring out the family, have dinner where the kids eat for free and then take them out in the parking lot to enjoy the things the fire department, police department and ambulances will have on hand.”

The RFD will be bringing their Fire Safety House that teaches children about fire hazards and fire safety. They will also have an engine available that kids can observe to learn about the fire equipment and gear the firefighters use on the job.

The RPD will have their patrol cars set up and will be offering child safety I.D. kits where the children can get their fingerprints taken and added to a list of basic information that parents can keep in case their child is ever in an emergency situation.

The ambulances will also be open for the children to observe all the equipment the emergency medical technicians use.

“We had a similar event like this when I worked at the Captain D’s in Muscle Shoals and it seemed to go over really well,” Davis said.

“The children always enjoy seeing the policemen and firemen and it’s a fun, family-friendly event that’ll get the kids out of the house and give the family an opportunity to do something all together, so we hope everyone will come out an join us on Thursday.”
