Grand jury indicts two for roles in RB store robbery

Two men accused of robbing a Red Bay convenience store at gunpoint in December of 2011 were indicted by a recent grand jury, courthouse officials said.

Brooks Dale McCreary, 21, 708 S. Romans Ct., Bloomington, Ind., and Dillan Pounders, 20, 6 Brett Circle, Belmont, Miss., were both indicted for first-degree robbery, Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said.

Reports indicate the men are accused of robbing the Chevron Quick Stop on Alabama 24 near McDonald’s in Red Bay on Dec. 10, 2011 at 4:25 a.m.

According to Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson, McCreary allegedly entered the store wearing a toboggan, had a red jersey over his face and held a shotgun up to the clerk before he demanded money from the cash register.

Jackson said after he got the money, he left the store and got into a car that Pounders was allegedly driving.

“After the clerk called law enforcement, Red Bay and Franklin County Sheriff’s officers began looking for the vehicle,” Jackson said. “Sheriff’s Dep. Mark Latham spotted the vehicle on 3rd Avenue South close to Sunshine Mills and made the traffic stop and brought the boys in for questioning.”

After being questioned, the two were both charged with first-degree robbery.

Jackson said the two suspects had allegedly crossed back into Mississippi after the incident but came back to Red Bay a short time later.

“They supposedly threw the jersey, toboggan and gun out the window and had come back to look for the gun when they were pulled over,” Jackson said.

Rushing said the robbery cases should be scheduled for the criminal trial docket in December.
