STARKVILLE Area students are participating in the Cooperative Education Program at Mississippi State University.
Terrance West of Lauderdale, Brian Rainer of Toombsuba, Karen McCoy of DeKalb and Brian Burns of Philadelphia are four of the more than 800 students in the program.
West is the son of Glenda Parks. After completing the third work-semester with Tennessee Valley Authority-Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn., West will return to the MSU campus to complete a degree in electrical engineering.
Rainer is the son of Randy and Alice Rainer. After completing the third work-semester with Southern Company-West in Birmingham, Rainer will return to the MSU campus to complete a degree in mechanical engineering.
McCoy is the daughter of Joe L. and Dorothy J. McCoy. After completing the third work-semester with Southern Company-East in Atlanta, McCoy will return to the MSU campus to complete a degree in industrial engineering.
Burns is completing his third work-semester with Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point. After that, Burns will return to the MSU campus to complete a degree in golf and sports turf management.
The MSU Cooperative Education Program is available to students in agriculture and life sciences, architecture, arts and sciences, business and industry, education, engineering and forest resources.
Students in the program receive a college education as well as practical experience in their chosen field of study.
BLUE MOUNTAIN Sandra Foster of Meridian was named to the president's list for the second semester of the 2001-2002 academic session at Blue Mountain College.
To be eligible for the president's list, a student must maintain a perfect 4.0 grade-point average on a minimum of 12 semester hours of work.
Lori Sanders of Meridian was named a dean's scholar for the first semester at the college.
To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must maintain a 3.6 or higher grade point average on a minimum of 12 semester hours of work.
CLINTON Several local students have been named to the Mississippi College president's list for the fall 2001 semester.
To be eligible for the president's list, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average on a minimum of 12 semester hours of work.
Local students on the president's list are: Daniel Wade of Toomsuba; Mindy Brooke Espey of Collinsville; and April Teresa Hand, Karen Emily Hand, Heather Lane Johnson, Kristen Paige Johnson and Rebecca Sara-Nell McCarty, all of Meridian.
Several local students were also named to the dean's list for the semester.
In order to be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must maintain a 3.5 or better grade point average on a minimum of 12 semester hours of work.
Students on the dean's list are: Andrea Kelly Barker, Roy Andrew Dabbs, Samantha Diane Davidson, Cristie Lee Green and Austin Wilburn Holmes, all of Meridian.
BIRMINGHAM Erin Brown, Lloyd Hooper and William Martin, all of Meridian, have been named to the fall semester dean's list at Birmingham-Southern College.
Students must be enrolled full-time with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
