Two Meridian Community College students received the Les Wallace Memorial Scholarship Tuesday night from the East Mississippi Manufacturing Association.
The two recipients: Jessie Houston of Meridian and Dale Tidwell of Preston.
This marks the fourth year that the $1,000 scholarship has been awarded and the first that two are being presented. The scholarship is in memory of Les Wallace, who was an electronics instructor at Meridian Community College.
Houston is a fourth semester student in the Business and Office Technology program. She has a 3.61 grade point average at MCC and is scheduled to graduate in May.
She is employed by H&R Block in Meridian.
Tidwell is a fourth semester student in the Telecommunications Technology program. He has a 3.58 grade point average and is scheduled to graduate in May.
Tidwell is employed as an electronics technician by Peavey's of Meridian.
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be enrolled in one of the occupational programs at MCC and must be taking work-based learning. An interview panel composed of MCC faculty and staff and a member of EMMA selects the winner.
The EMMA is accepting funds to endow the scholarship so it can continue to be given to MCC students.
Anyone who would like to make a donation can send it to: Les Wallace Scholarship Fund, East Mississippi Manufacturing Association, PO Box 790, Meridian, MS 39302.
