Lady Bobcats beat Lady Wildcats in six

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Lauren Swinney (12) of Phil Campbell lays down a bunt against Tharptown Tuesday afternoon.

THARPTOWN —  The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats found themselves in a rematch with the Tharptown Lady Wildcats Tuesday afternoon.

There would be a much different outcome this time around, as Phil Campbell downed Tharptown 13-0.

“Tharptown is a good team,” Phil Campbell head coach Darit Riddle said. “We weren’t ready to play them last time.”

The Lady Wildcats never could seem to get anything going, making for a one-sided game.

“We did good for the first couple of innings,” Tharptown head coach Susie Sellers said.

“We made a couple of errors and everything just dominoed from there. It’s a learning experience. We have to get better and regroup.”

The Lady Bobcats took an early 3-0 lead after a two-RBI double by Lindsey Jackson followed by a run batted in by Whitley Yocom.

The Lady Bobcats added to their total in the top of the fifth when Lauren Swinney touched home plate after some trick base running.

Two RBI singles followed for Phil Campbell, including another for Yocom.

Korina Jimenez hit a two-RBI single to right field to add to the big inning.

A double to left field by Vicky McAlister set up the last run of the inning for the Lady Bobcats, an RBI double to left by Tori Pace.

Yocom, Jimenez, McAlister and Pace all added RBIs in the top of the sixth inning, closing out the scoring for the game.

“It’s good to get a win,” Riddle said. “It could start a new winning streak, maybe.”

Jackson was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bobcats. She threw for six innings, giving up no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.
