Meridian police said they have increased their regular traffic patrol, especially since more motorists are expected to take to the roads this holiday season.
Capt. Tommy Miller said the move comes in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. More people will choose car travel over air or rail travel.
The traffic patrol will include the usual zero-tolerance for no seat belt usage.
Miller said officers will also be on the lookout for drivers who are speeding and drivers who are intoxicated.
The holiday traffic detail began Dec. 17 and will last through Jan. 1.
