Southeast splits with Union

UNION Southeast Lauderdale and Union exchanged season's beatings Thursday night with the Lady Tigers and Yellow Jackets dishing out the misery on their opponents.
Southeast took a 76-46 win in the girls' game with Union rolling to an 81-57 victory in the boys' contest.
Southeast returns to action Tuesday when Kemper County invades Vimville, while Union hosts Puckett tonight. The Union boys will be participating in the Philadelphia Holiday Classic, Dec. 27-29.
Union boys 81, Southeast 57: Trailing 19-18, Union took advantage of some Tiger turnovers to go on a 9-0 run late in the second quarter. The Jackets carried a 34-25 lead into halftime behind a balanced attack that had Prentiss Evans with 10 points, Derric Harris with nine, Trellis Mason with eight, and Doug Wansley with seven.
Harris then racked up 13 points in the third quarter as Union increased its lead to 57-42.
Union improved to 8-4. Harris finished with 30 points which included an 8-of-9 showing at the free-throw line. Evans added 19, while Mason and Wansley both scored 11.
Lapatrick Carlisle had 12 points for Southeast, 1-13. Ben Reed scored 11, Alex West had nine, Doug Rowe tossed in eight, and Anthony Horner was held to seven.
Southeast girls 76, Union 46: Southeast senior guard Monique Horner hasn't filed for disability just yet and while that's good news for her and the Lady Tigers, it wasn't good news for Union as Horner hit eight 3-pointers en route to a 40-point night. She also pulled down 10 rebounds.
Southeast led 23-8 after one quarter and was up 44-10 before taking a 44-12 lead into halftime.
The Lady Tigers were up 60-28 to start the fourth quarter.
Southeast, 9-6, also got eight points from Kim Carter, seven from Lesley Ruffin, and six from Shalonda Mitchell.
Union, 4-11, got 18 points from Jerica Hickman, and eight from Marley Smith.
