Harris to run for city council

Lifelong Russellville resident Jamie Harris has announced his candidacy for the Russellville City Council.

Harris is seeking the District 5 seat that is being vacated by incumbent David Grissom, who will be running for mayor during the August municipal election.

Harris is a 1993 graduate of Russellville High School. He attended Northwest-Shoals Community College and Auburn University before graduating from the University of North Alabama in 1998.

He has worked as a counselor for the Franklin County S.P.A.N. program since 1999 and operates a cattle farm.

Harris said that building for the future and improving the city’s services will be top priorities of his, if elected.

“I will do everything in my power to help our children and to prepare the city for the future,” Harris said.

“We have a lot to build on and Russellville is a great city, but we need to look to the future and make sure that our infrastructure and city services are where they need to be to help us grow.”

Harris is a member of Russellville Masonic Lodge 371, Newburg Masonic Lodge 388, Cahaba Shrine, Franklin County Shrine Club, Alabama Cattlemen’s Association and is a past president of the Russellville Kiwanis Club. He is also on the board of directors of the Franklin County Co-Op and he serves on the Russellville parks and recreation board.

He attends First United Methodist Church in Russellville. He is the son of James and Alicia Harris and has one brother, John Harris.

He is engaged to Mindy Dunbar, also of Russellville.
