AHSAA announces new classifications and alignments

The Alabama High School Athletic Association announced the new classifications as well as region and area alignments for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

None of the teams in Franklin County have changed classifications.

Belgreen, Tharptown and Vina all remain in Class 1A. Tharptown and Vina will compete in Region 8 in football and will join Belgreen in Area 15 for basketball.

Red Bay and Phil Campbell will compete in Class 2A, Region 8 in football and Area 16 in basketball.

Russellville will regain some old rivals in football as Hartselle and Cullman move into Class 5A, Region 8. In basketball, the Golden Tigers will be in Area 16 with Muscle Shoals, Athens and Lawrence County.
