Meetings to discuss storm safe rooms planned

Two important meetings concerning the safe room program offered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be held in Franklin County this week and officials said it’s imperative for residents to attend if they are interested in participating in this program where FEMA will match 75 percent of the cost of the safe room up to $4,000.

The first meeting will only be for residents who live inside the city limits of Russellville.

The meeting will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the A.W. Todd Center in downtown Russellville.

The second meeting will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Phil Campbell City Hall.

Officials said these will be informative meetings to let the public know what the guidelines are for applying for the program, what documentation is required and how to fill out two-page application.

To be eligible for the program, the applicant must own their home and the home must be their primary residence.

The deadline to apply for the program is Oct. 7 and officials said the only way to receive comprehensive information before the deadline is to attend one of the two scheduled meetings.
