The month of October is almost upon us and that means tournaments, tournaments, and more tournaments! First up is the 5th Annual City MIxed Tournament (Oct. 6-7 and 13-14). As usual, this tournament features a 4 person team event (any combinations of men and women) and a doubles event, which must include one man and one woman. The entry fee is $20 per person per event. There will also be an optional all-events for $5.
The winning team in both team event and doubles event will not only receive a cash prize, but will also receive a free entry in the state mixed tournament in November. Entry forms are available at both Dixie Bowl and McCain Lanes. Contact tournament directors Ronnie and June Thomas or MBA Association Secretary Kenneth Miller for more information.
Next up is the 21st Annual Mississippi WBA "Magic Age" Tournament, open to women 55 years of age and older. The entry deadline is October 4. The tournament will be held the weekend of October 21 and 22.
The month wraps up with the Meridian YABA Halloween Scotch Doubles Fund Raiser October 27-28. The entry fee for this event is $10 per person. A drawing for a 27 inch television will be held October 28 at 1:30. Proceeds from this tournament will go to help our youth bowlers. Contact Candy Blackmon for more information.
Also on the agenda is the Stan's Classic Tournament on October 14th at AMF Bama Lanes in Tuscaloosa. The eight-game sweeper is hosted by Meridian's Stan Bottorff and will include both Scratch and Handicap divisions.
In local action last week, Johnnie Blackmon led all scorers with a nice 747 series in the Wednesday Night Mixed league while Bill Fike took High Game honors with a 289 effort. Shelia Dearman and Barbara Holden tied for the top spot for the ladies by recording series of 616 and Nonie Embrey recorded the ladies High Game with a 231. Honorable mention goes to Jane Gibson with a 606.
Congratulations to Tandee Marx, who recorded her first career 600 Series with a 604 in Friday's night's Ball &Chain league.
