Members of the 186th Air Refueling Wing of the Mississippi Air National Guard in Meridian have been called to active duty, but have not been mobilized yet.
U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss., said in a news release his office issued this morning that the 186th was activated.
Former U.S. Rep. G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery, who works in Washington and served as Pickering's predecessor, said the 186th has not been mobilized yet.
Maj. Gen. Paul Weaver, chief commander of the Mississippi Air National Guard, declined to comment and referred all questions to Washington.
Pickering called the 186th "one of our nation's premier refueling wings. It is a credit to our state and nation to have the quality of individuals that make up the 186th Air Refueling Wing."
