Local students receive academic honors

Lauren Gavin, a sophomore accounting major at Meridian Community College, will receive the Beverly Barham Memorial Scholarship. The annual $400 scholarship was established 11 years ago by Bernice and Dwight Barham as a tribute to their daughter.
Gavin is a Dean's List scholar, and a member of the MCC tennis team and the Baptist Student Union.
Meridian Community College sophomore Christian Gomez, from Tulua, Colombia, has been chosen as the Thomas Y. Minniece Scholar for the new college year.
The $800 scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the late Mr. Minniece, to help Latin American students attend MCC through The MCC Foundation.
Gomez is studying in the University Transfer Program, majoring in advertising.
LaToya Seals of Meridian will serve as the Rea, Shaw, Giffin &Stewart Scholar at Meridian Community College for 2001-2002.
The $1,500 scholarship to help a business major is funded annually by the local CPA firm and its employees through The MCC Foundation.
Seals, a sophomore accounting major, is a Dean's List and President's List scholar.
HATTIESBURG The following area residents were named to the University of Southern Mississippi President's List for the 2001 summer semester in recognition of their 4.0 grade point average:
Meridian Rhonda Kay Bracey, Mary Michele Buxton, Sandra A. Ducksworth, Leshonda Tucker Walker, Claire Herring Weed and Leah Nicole Williams.
Collinsville Eric Landis Butler.
Toomsuba Dianne Shelton McCollum.
Woodville Celyntha Charf Dangerfield.
Leonard Walker of Scooba is participating in the Cooperative Education Program at Mississippi State University, working with TVA-Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn. Walker is working on a degree in electrical engineering.
The MSU Cooperative Education Program gives students practical work experience in their chosen field of study.
