Meridian Community College has re-written the record book for the second consecutive year, registering more students for the fall 2001 term than for any previous term.
As of Friday, MCC had registered a total of 3,734 students, roughly a 4 percent increase over the record number of registrations attained by MCC last year.
Perhaps even more impressive, according to Dr. Tommy McDonald, MCC's vice president for operations, is an 18.3 percent increase in the total number of full-time students registered.
McDonald said enrollment progress is examined in several ways total number of registrations, total number of full-time students, total number of part-time students, and, ultimately, how many students are retained throughout the semester.
Elliott said he felt the increase was attributable to a number of things, chief among them "the quality of instruction and student services at MCC."
Elliott said he has been especially proud of the work that has been accomplished by MCC staff in marketing, student recruitment and financial aid.
The continued commitment of the MCC Foundation has also been instrumental in the college's growth, Elliott said.
The fourth-year MCC president cited the advent of the Student Success Center, made possible by the Riley Foundation and the Phil Hardin Foundation, as a key part of the equation.
Elliott said MCC's big goal now is to retain as many students as possible.
