Clarkdale opens with 10-0 win over Southeast

The Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs kicked off its 2001 slow-pitch softball campaign with a 10-0 dismantling of visiting Southeast Tuesday night. CHS sophomore Megan Potate had the hot bat for the Lady Dogs as she put in a 3-for-3 performance at the plate that included two doubles and a triple.
CHS got its first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on an Ashley Satcher single that knocked in Potate who led off the inning with a double.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up another run in the second inning before erupting for five in the third. In that inning, Kaylea Thrash reached base on a single and Potate brought another run to the plate by crushing a double to make it 3-0 CHS in the third.
Three consecutive RBI singles from the bats of Brandy Wright, Savanah Satcher and Bethany Spidle gave the Lady Dogs a 7-0 lead after three innings of play.
Potate ripped a triple in the fourth that once again plated Thrash as CHS picked up two runs in the inning and held on for the 10-0 run-rule victory.
Thrash, a freshman right hander for the Lady Bulldogs, put in a solid pitching performance from the mound by keeping the visiting Lady Tigers from Southeast scoreless.
CHS skipper Rick Roberson said that while he was pleased with the way his young squad played, he still looks to see some improvement over the course of the year.
Clarkdale returns to action on Thursday by hosting cross-county rival West Lauderdale at 7 p.m.
