Just nine days before the beginning of a new school year, Southeast Lauderdale High School finds itself without a principal.
The Lauderdale County school board decided in a special meeting Thursday to advertise the vacancy as part of a full-scale search to replace Kenneth Abbott, who resigned to take a position as principal of Pascagoula High School.
The position will be advertised for three weeks. A committee made up of parents, teachers and other community members will review the applicants to narrow the field.
A central office committee will then narrow the remaining applicants down to three, from which superintendent David Little will make a recommendation to the board.
Southeast High School assistant principal, Jacqueline Stephens, will be heading the facility in the meantime. Classes begin at Lauderdale County Schools Aug. 13.
