Lauderdale County's TRIAD program, designed to help prevent crimes against elderly residents, received a $3,000 grant Thursday.
TRIAD is a national anti-crime program established in communities around the country. As part of the program, local law enforcement agencies collaborate with senior citizens' groups such as the American Association of Retired People to develop programs to prevent senior citizens from becoming victims.
The county's program includes the AARP, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, the Meridian Police Department and the Marion Police Department.
The Mississippi Leadership Council on Aging awarded the grant. Calhoun said some of the money will be used to post street numbers to make it easier to locate senior citizens' homes in case of emergencies, and to install peepholes.
