Nathan Andrew Shelnutt, 85, of Phil Campbell, Ala. passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 after suffering with a brief illness.
Although, he was born in Franklin County in 1925, Mr. Shelnutt traveled much of the world when he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. He lived in Chicago for almost 50 years but eventually wound up back home. He worked as a security guard at Russellville Hospital and enjoyed Convention singing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Union Hill First Congregational Methodist Church since 1942.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Union Hill First Congregational Methodist Church in Phil Campbell. The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Officiating will be Bro. Charles Poss, Bro. James Anderton and Bro. Dewayne Woodall. Interment will be in Union Hill Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margree Morgan Shelnutt; an infant daughter, Rhonda; parents, Henry and Mary Shelnutt; brothers, Homer L. Shelnutt, Tony Shelnutt and Jackie Shelnutt; and sister, Mavis Davidson.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Morgan and husband, Jimmy, of Russellville, and Lisa Nix Townsend and husband, Ronald, of Russellville; grandchildren, Stephanie Baker and husband, Will, Justin Morgan and wife, Brittney, of Russellville, and Amber Nix; great-grandson, Cade Baker, of Russellville; brothers, William Shelnutt and wife, Erena, of Russellville, B.O. Shelnutt and wife, Betty, of Phil Campbell, and Boyd Shelnutt and wife, Barbara Jean, of Phil Campbell; sisters, Roma Stanley, Ponce de Leon, Fla. and Myrtle Lou Cornfourth, Barrington, Ill.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
