Lorenzo Overton

Lorenzo Dow Overton, 76, of Hodges, died Friday, May 28, 2010 at Helen Keller  Hospital.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesdasy, June 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Akins Funeral Home with Bro. Webster Wade officiating. Burial will be in the Overton Farms Family Cemetery in  Hodges with full military honors.

Pallbearers will include Alan Heupel, Joshua Montgomery, Danny Williams, and Austin Thomas Williams. The University of North Alabama football special teams and the University of West Alabama ladies’ volleyball teams will be serving as honorary pallbearers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe  Wheeler Overton and  Zora K. Chamblee  Overton; siblings, Lucille Overton, Ardie Overton, Roy Overton, Jacqueline Vickery; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob Guilfoyle, Billie Joe Scott, and Bobbie Sparks.

He is survived by children, Stephen Lorenzo Overton, Jan Marie and Danny Thomas Williams, Tricia Lynn and Scott Montgomery; sisters, Jean Gullfoyle, and Kay Scott; grandchildren, Dana Marie Clanton, Brittney Michelle Signorelli, Caitlyn Faye Williams, Austin Thomas Dow Williams, Joshua David Montgomery, Cassandra Patricia Montgomery, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Before retiring, he worked as a machinist for General Motors; and he served in the U.S. Army form 1956 to 1962.

The family expresses their sincere thanks to the staff at Helen Keller Hospital, Alan Heupel, ICU team at Russellville Hospital, and the support of our families, friends and church.
